The Principals of all affiliated colleges under JNTU, Kakinada

Sub: Jawahar Knowledge Centers (JKC) - Reg.

***
I am by the direction of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor wish to inform to you that Government of Andhra Pradesh is very keen in increasing the rate of employment and skill development initiatives for students while they are on the campus. In view of this government promoted Jawahar Knowledge Center Initiative through Institute for Electronic Governance and the results so far are encouraging. The objective of bridging the gap between the industry and academia is successfully attempted and the JKC initiative has been expanding over the last few years. Especially for the engineering and MCA colleges in the tier II and III towns, JKC is extending number of Industry initiatives. Some of the initiatives that are on cards for students in the forthcoming year are listed below.

1) Oracle came forward to give free software to all JKC registered colleges and train faculty on Oracle 10g software. IEG has signed MoU with Oracle Academy to this extent.

2) Microsoft has given free access to software for all JKC students and is organizing faculty development continuously on new technologies.

3) Infosys Campus Connect is delivered to various colleges through JKC. JKC is regularly monitoring the rollout of these modules and assessing the delivery mechanism.

4) IBM has signed MoU with IEG – JKC to train students on IBM technologies and give access to students on their software.

5) To deliver these technologies to students, IEG has trained and ear marked about 50 IT Associates for each industry initiative. Industry has come up with special certification price for JKC students. The trainings are given free of cost for JKC students which otherwise would cost money (Rs.10k – 20K minimum) and time.

6) Similar initiatives with CISCO, HCL, Autodesk, LabView, Adobe, etc are being worked out to enhance the technical skills of the students while they are on the campus.

7) IEG is also working with Government of India to have all JKC students certified (free of cost) on Modular Employable Skills.

8 ) IEG is allocating IT Associate to supplement JKC training to students where the student registrations are considerable in number. These IT associates will deliver one theory subject and a lab course for the college as a good will gesture.

9) IEG has signed MoU with IUCEE (Indo US Council for Engineering Education) to network its activities in the state of AP.

10) IEG has been helping out JKC students on LIVE Projects in the final year wherever there is good number of requests.

11) All JKC students are continuously assessed (planned once in a year) on various skills so that student can concentrate on skills in which he is week. The test results are hosted on the web site.

12) JKC is networking several student competitions, industry academia interactions, student and faculty workshop, etc to improve the competencies of students.

For more information you may check the website www.ieg.gov.in or call Smt K. Prathyusha, Program Manager, IEG, JNTU Campus, Masab Tank, Hyderabad (ph 9908131998)

In view of the above the Principals of the colleges are requested to address the students and faculty to make them aware of the program and its benefits. This would improve the employment potential in students which in the long run improves the society at large.

JNTU Paper Evaluation & Electronic Distribution of Question Papers

JNTU Paper Evaluation & Electronic Distribution of Question Papers

Electronic Distribution of Examination Question papers :

The University examinations in all the affiliated colleges will be conducted by the University through its Nodal centres. In this procedure the question papers are randomly generated by the computers and they are stored in the electronic form duly encrypted. These encrypted soft copies are sent to the examination centres. These question papers can be decrypted by entering three levels of passwords. The final password will be issued by the university 30 minutes before the commencement of examination which will help the colleges to decrypt the question paper and print them at their centers. This gives full fool proof system and confidentiality.

Double Valuation System :

In order to make evaluation system perfect and to do justice to all the students, “Double valuation” system is introduced with effect from November, 2005 for all affiliated engineering colleges. According to this procedure each answer book will be evaluated independently by two examiners. These examiners will award the marks on different award lists without marking on the answer books. These two award lists will be compared by the Chief Examiner of the subject. If the difference between these two valuations is within the prescribed limits, the higher marks will be awarded to the student. If the differences are more than the prescribed limit the Chief Examiner will finalize the marks in consultation with the two examiners. The above examination procedure, make the foolproof examination and justified evaluation.

How To Plan This Semester - Tips To ace This Semester (Follow Atleast Few)

How To Plan This Semester - Tips To ace This Semester (Follow Atleast Few)

SQ3R
This approach helps you get the most out of your reading. It will help you create notes from your reading from which to study.

1. Survey: Carefully pre-read the chapter. Look at the title, subtitles, boldface and italics, graphs and diagrams, summary and/or conclusion, and questions at the end of the chapter.

2. Question: Reading is a thinking process; inquiry makes you an active reader. Formulate questions before you read. Convert titles, subtitles, etc. into questions. WRITE THESE DOWN!

3. Read: Thoroughly read the chapter and fill in the answers to your questions as you go along.
Important: Read for meaning, not only the answers! Write down any information you sense is important.

4. Recite: Talk to yourself. Read your questions, answers and notes out loud. Translate key ideas and new terms into your own words. Research any answers or information that don't seem clear enough.

5. Review: Reread your notes as often as possible. Frequent review enables you to better retain the material.
BE FLEXIBLE! At first go through SQ3R step-by-step, and later alter it to suit your own purposes and style.

Note Taking Skills and Strategies
Tips on taking notes, techniques and strategies that will help you become a good note taker. Whether taking college lecture notes or class notes these tips will be of great help.

* If the instructor writes something on the chalkboard/overhead or repeats an idea then it is usually a key point and you should write it down.
* Try to sit towards the front and center of the class where you'll be less distracted and can hear the professor the best and have a good angle on any visual aids that may be shown.
* Don't rely on someone Else's notes, you may not understand everything that they write down and you'll learn the best by taking your own notes.
* If your instructor talks fast, it may help to bring an audio recorder and record the lecture while taking notes.
* After the lecture is over you can replay the lecture and fill in any parts that you missed in your notes.
* Do reading assignments or homework questions before class, it is easier to take notes when you know what the instructor is talking about.
* Date your notes; add titles and subtitles when you move onto a new topic for easy referencing.
* Write down any terminology along with the definition that the instructor may present.
* Make sure that you write legibly, if you can't read them later, they'll be useless.
* If you have sloppy handwriting it may be wise to type your notes so that they are easier to read.
* If you missed what the instructor said ask them to repeat it or go to the instructor after class and ask for clarification.
* If you are in a rush, ask the instructor at the beginning of the next class or try to find the answer from a friend or the text.
* Compare notes with a classmate to make sure you didn't miss any important points.

Study Skills Help & Study Tips

* Everyone is different, different methods work for different people the following are only suggestions on improving upon your current studying techniques.
* It is best to review the material right after class when it's still fresh in your memory.
* Don't try to do all your studying the night before the test, instead space out your studying, review class materials at least several times a week, focusing on one topic at a time.
* Have all of your study material in front of you: lecture notes, course textbooks, study guides and any other relevant material.Find a comfortable and quiet place to study with good lighting and little distractions (try avoiding your own bed; it is very tempting to just lie down and take a nap).
* Start out by studying the most important information. Learn the general concepts first; don't worry about learning the details until you have learned the main ideas.
* Take notes and write down a summary of the important ideas as you read through your study material.
* Take short breaks frequently, you memory retains the information that you study at the beginning and the end better than what you study in the middle.
* Space out your studying, you'll learn more by studying a little every day instead of waiting to cram at the last minute.
* By studying everyday, the material will stay in your long-term memory but if you try to study at the last moment, the material will only reside in your short-term memory that you'll easily forget.
* Make sure that you understand the material well, don't just read through the material and try to memorize everything.
* If you choose to study in a group, only study with others who are serious about the test.
* Test yourself or have someone test you on the material to find out what your weak and strong areas are.
* You can use the review questions at the end of each chapter or practice tests the teacher may give out as well as other materials.
* Listening to relaxing music such as classical or jazz on a low volume can relieve some of the boredom of studying. Don't study later than the time you usually go to sleep, you may fall asleep or be tempted to go to sleep, instead try studying in the afternoon or early evening.
* If you are a morning person try studying in the morning.

Creating Good Homework/Study Habits
Good study habits start with a clean and quiet environment. So whenever you start to study or do homework be sure to turn off the television, radio, and i‐pod. If you absolutely have to have background noise try playing soft classical music. Avoiding music with words and recognizable melodies helps limit distractions.

There are many different kinds of routines that can help you succeed in completing your homework. Below is an example of such a routine. I encourage you to try it faithfully for at least a week before switching routines. The more you do something the easier it will become.

1. When you come home get a quick snack and some water (not soda). Also, change yours clothes; it will give you a fresh start. (10‐15min.)

2. Sit down at a clean table with your planner, binder(s) and all your books.

3. Set a timer for 30 min., almost all microwaves or ovens have a kitchen timer setting.

4. Open your planner and get started on the first item listed. Work on that item until it is completed, then put it back your notebook so you will be sure to have it ready to turn in.

5. Once you finish the first item highlight it or put a check next to it in your planner. Then begin the next item.

6. When the timer goes off set it for 5 min. and use that time to take a quick break to use the restroom, get another drink of water or walk around.

7. Once your break time is over set the timer for 30 min. again. Continue working on your list, remembering to check off the assignments once they are completed.

8. Continue this pattern of 30 min. on and 5 min. off until all your work is completed.

9. Once you have done everything you are supposed to do, put all your schoolwork and supplies (books) in your backpack. Then put your backpack by the front door, so you are ready to go in the morning.

10. Now you are done and can enjoy the rest of your evening. Way to go!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you find it difficult to revise for exams when you have so many subjects and things to remember? If the answer is yes, then you're not alone! These tips should help.

* Find out the exact dates of your exams. You will know how much time you have left before each exam. It might help to draw up a table which includes all your subjects and all the weeks you have until the last exam, and then fill in the exam dates.
* Prioritize your subjects. If you think you have most to do in computer graphics or that is your weakest subject then this will be top priority. Put all your subjects in an order from most to least important.
* Decide on a revision plan which will work for you. How many hours do you need to do of a night? Do you have other commitments you can't get out of? Leave some time for breaks, meals and free time but ensure you have a good time slot each night for revision.
* Fill in your revision timetable in with your subjects, and use your priority list to give the most important ones more revision time.
* Stick to this timetable! Speaking from experience, if you decide to focus solely on one or two subjects because you think you know the others, you will get a nasty shock. Don't ignore any of the subjects, but ensure you have a balance where your priority subjects have the lead.
* Begin by revising all the material which you don't know as well. There is no point in beginning to revise the basics of electronics if you are pretty confident in it. You may find that also prioritizing each individual subjects modules or topics helps you. Therefore if you run out of time you will know that you have definitely revised the hardest stuff!
* Actually attempt to remember the material. It sounds stupid but most of the time people are tempted to spend all their revision time just reading or writing and assume that they know it all. Never assume; 'it makes an *** out of U and ME' and its true. If you assume you know it without actually testing yourself on it then you might get a shock in the exam...
* Read the facts a few times so you are familiar with what they mean. If there's anything you don't understand do everything you can to find out. Ask the teacher, research other books and on the Internet. You will be learning as you do it!
* After you are more familiar with them, make your own notes so that it's shorter, but ensure that they make sense so you won't need to refer back to the test book when revising.
* Don't do too much at once. Take a page and test yourself by covering it up and writing down everything you remember. Then, check it and do it again and again until you have everything! This way you are testing and revising as you re-read it over again!
* You may not enjoy revising, but if you try and take interest in what you are learning and get really stuck into it, the more you will remember!
* Never give up - easier said than done right, but giving up only makes you more of a failure when you don't get the % you wanted for your exam. You will always have the guilt of knowing you didn't try your hardest.
* Everyone learns differently; you just have to discover how the best way is for you. But in the end it all comes down to testing yourself, so you can be sure you know it!
* You may not achieve the % you expected. Know in yourself what you are capable of achieving so you don't set your targets too high. Don't settle for lower % than your ability either though, just know your ability and do your best.
* Revision isn't fun - receiving your good % is.
* Never compare yourself to your friends. They are not you. we are all different. Just do your best and be happy with that.

Cramming Techniques for Exams

* Cramming for exams should be avoided at all costs. You should only cram for an exam as a last resort. It's hard to take in and retain a large amount of information in a short period of time. Some of the tips on studying and preparing for a test may over lap with the cramming techniques below.
* Eat some food to give you energy to study, but try to avoid excess sugar which will make you hyper and will make it more difficult to study.
* An apple does a better job at keeping you focused and awake than caffeine.
* Find a well lit place with no distractions around to study but don't get too comfortable or you may fall a sleep. Keep a positive attitude, it is easier to study when you are relaxed than when you are stressed out.
* Since your time is limited you have to choose what you study, don't attempt to learn everything, focus on things that will get you the most points on the exam.
* Focus on the main ideas and learn key formulas, skip the details for now and only come back to them if you see that you have time after you have learned the key points.
* Write down the key ideas/formulas on a sheet of paper and keep on studying from that sheet, repetition is important.
* Highlight the important points in your notes, and text and focus on that.
* Read the chapter summaries (they usually do a good job at summarizing the important points), if there're no chapter summaries then skim through the text and write down key ideas.
* Study from past tests, review questions, home works & review sheets.
* Take at least one five minute break an hour so that you can gather your thoughts and let your brain relax.
* If time permits, try to get at least 3 hours of sleep (one sleep cycle) before the exam so that you don't fall asleep when taking your exam. Don't forget to set your alarm!

Guidelines about JNTU Final Project

Guidelines about JNTU Final Project

The objective of this document is to present the general guidelines for the writing up of a proper Final-project report.

All JNTU B-Tech IV-II students have to do a project in the given time period by the university.

By this time u would have got some idea about the project work as u have done with your mini project in III-II Semester. As in most of the colleges we were given choice to a study project or kit based and this could be done in an Institute,Industry or own. Most of chose to do a study project and were given permission for this and had to work on project during your IV-II Semester & we had to submit this report by the end of IV-II Class work. This project will be evaluated at the end of semester (The mini project and its report shall be evaluated with this final project work).

Basically in this Final project student can take up any Industry oriented application in his/her field of interest in their respective field/branch.First one has to submit an Abstract of the project to their concerned department head (HOD) and once he approves it ,he will assign a project guide to the individual or batch after this project work is to be started. Generally batch for a final project may have 1 to 3 members in it.

Ask following questions before you join any company for project
Code:

http://forum.jntuworld.com/showthrea...ny-for-project

Important Points:
1) Final Project will be your key to success because when ever u attend interviews in any company the first question would be "Tell me about your project ?". so do the project with a proper attention on it.

2) Better to do the projects in the fields of latest upcoming technologies so that it would fetch u a plus point during the evaluation of project & also during the interviews.

3) If your role in the project is limited to few modules,Try to have a complete idea on the project (i.e., know about all the modules & steps involved in the project) because during the project evaluation the project supervisor (i.e., evaluator) may put forward few questions regarding the other modules also.

4) Out of a total 200 marks for the project work, 40 marks shall be for Internal Evaluation (The internal Evaluation shall be on the basis of two seminars given by each student on the topic of his project) and 160 marks for the End Semester Examination. The End Semester Examination (viva-voce) shall be conducted by the same committee appointed for industry oriented mini project. In addition the project supervisor shall also be included in the committee.

5) The topics for industry oriented mini project, seminar and project work shall be different from each other.

6) The mini project and its report shall be evaluated with the project work in IV year II semester.

How to avoid virus, spreading through usb drive

How to avoid virus, spreading through usb drive

USB Security measures in Windows

DON’T GET PANIC ABOUT THE VIRUS ,Try to avoid it

• Virus & worms are easily spread by carrying it on a removable medium such as USB drive, Flash based Mp3 players(Ipods), CD, Floppy
• USB drive is otherwise called as “Flash Drive”,“Thumb Drive”, “Memory stick”, “External USB Hard Disk”.
• Even though we have very good Antivirus, new Viruses are one step ahead than Antivirus
• We cannot restrict USB Drive, but we can avoid spreading of virus & worms through USB Drive.
• So we have to be little bit careful while working with USB Drive, some precautionary steps are follows

STEP 1:
• Don’t allow the USB Drive to Auto Play after plug in, cancel it.

STEP 2:
• Go to My computer
• Devices with Removable storage
• Do not Double click the USB Drive
• Note the drive letter assigned to USB Drive as mentioned in the Figure
• Here its E:

STEP 3:
• Go to Start > Run > Type (the drive letter+(Here its E- Refer the figure shown below

• Click on "OK" button or Hit the enter key

Now you can view the Contents of your USB Drive
• Copy the necessary files only, dont use cntrl+A
Repeat the whole steps whenever you are plug in the USB drive. In this way you can keep your Desktop and Laptop free from viruses & worms.
• It may be a time consuming process, but no other way to avoid the virus.

HOW TO IDENTIFY VIRUS AFFECTED USB DRIVE

If you find such a screen after plugging in the USB drive, its a virus affected one.Immediately click on cancel button

If you had already enabled hidden files and folders view, you can see the virus file from an affected USB drive.

While doing the STEP 3: you can find the virus files as shown below

Remember one thing.

Do not doubleclick or autorun a removable storage device (especially USB drive)

If you doubleclick or autorun it the autorun will be executed which will inturn execute the virus file.

To view or enable the hidden files and folders
• Open any folder
• Goto Tools > Folder options > click view tab
• Under view tab goto > Advanced settings > Hidden files and folders
• Click radio button “show hidden files and folders”
• Remove check mark “Hide extension for known file types”
• Remove check mark “Hide protected operating system files”
• Click Apply , ok.

Tips 2 Construct poster presentation!!!

Tips 2 Construct poster presentation!!!

Re: Constructing a poster presentation

General format:

* Determine the one essential concept you would like to get across to the audience.
* Determine the size of the poster. Common dimensions for posters are 42 x 42 inches, 42 x 48 inches, or 42 x 52 inches.

Preparing a poster will take as much time as you let it. Allocate your time wisely. If you have little experience making posters, it will take longer.

A good way to start: Sketch it out!

Make a sketch of the poster. Arrange the contents in a series of 3, 4, or 5 columns. This will facilitate the flow of traffic past the poster.

Place the elements of the poster in position:

* The title will appear across the top.
* A brief introduction will appear at the upper left.
* The conclusions will appear at the lower right.
* Methods and Results will fill the remaining space.

The Title

This part of the poster includes the title of the work, the authors names, & the institutional affiliations. Think BIG!

* The title should be readable from 15 - 20 feet away.
* If space permits, use first names for authors to facilitate interactions.
* Middle initials and titles are seldom necessary.
* Use abbreviations where possible.

Sequencing contents

A poster should use photos, figures, and tables to tell the story of the study. For clarity, present the information in a sequence that is easy to follow:

* Determine a logical sequence for the material you will be presenting.
* Organize that material into sections, e.g., Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, &, if necessary, Literature Cited. (Avoid using too many citations. If only a few are used, a literature cited section is unnecessary. Instead, cite as follows in the text: Clinton, B. 1993. Auk 107:234-246.).
* You may wish to use numbers to help sequence sections of the poster.
* Arrange the material into columns.
* The poster should not rely upon your verbal explanation to link together the various portions.

Edit Ruthlessly!

There is almost always too much text in a poster.

1. Posters primarily are visual presentations; the text should support the graphics.

2. Look critically at the layout. Some poster 'experts' suggest that if there is about 20-25% text, 40-45% graphics and 30-40% empty space, you are doing well.

3. Use active voice when writing the text.

4. Delete all redundant references and filler phrases (such as see Figure 1).

5. An abstract may not be necessary. If you've kept the amount of text on your poster to a minimum, an abstract is likely redundant.

The poster is not a publication of record, so excessive detail about methods, or vast tables of data are not necessary. Such material can be discussed with interested persons individually during or after the session, or presented in a handout.

Illustrations

The success of a poster directly relates to the clarity of the illustrations and tables.

* Self-explanatory graphics should dominate the poster.
* A minimal amount of text should supplement the graphic materials.
* Use empty space between poster elements to differentiate and accentuate these elements.
* Graphic materials should be visible easily from a minimum distance of 6 feet.
* Restrained use of 2 - 3 colors for emphasis is valuable; overuse is not.

Show no mercy when editing visual materials!

* Use short sentences, simple words, and bullets to illustrate discrete points.
* Remove all non-essential information from graphs and tables.
* If possible, label data lines in graphs directly, using large type & color.
* Lines in illustrations should be larger than normal. Use contrast and colors for emphasis.
* Use colors to distinguish different data groups in graphs. Avoid using patterns or open bars in histograms.
* Colored transparency overlays can be useful for comparing/contrasting graphic results.

Poster text

Double-space all text, using left-justification; text with even left sides and jagged right sides is easiest to read. The text should be large enough to be read easily from at least 6 feet away.

For section headings (e.g., Introduction), use bold, maybe a font size of about 36-42. For supporting text (e.g., text within each section & figure captions), use font sizes of about 24-28 (bold, if appropriate). In general, use font sizes proportional to importance:

* largest font size- Title
* next largest font size - Section headings
* medium font size - Supporting material
* smallest font size - Details

Keep in mind that san serif fonts (having characters without curliques or other embellishments) are easiest to read. Finally, be consistent. Choose one font and then use it throughout the poster. Add emphasis by using boldface, underlining, or color; italics are difficult to read. .

The Poster's Background

The choice of a background color is up to you. However, softer colors (pastels & greys) may work best as a background - they are easiest to view for hours at a time, and offer the best contrast for text, graphic, and photographic elements.

Use a colored background to unify your poster:

1. Muted colors, or shades of gray, are best for the background. Use more intense colors as borders or for emphasis, but be conservative - overuse of color is distracting.

2. Two to three related background colors (Methods, Results, & Discussion) will unify the poster.

3. If necessary for emphasis, add a single additional color by mounting the figure on thinner poster board, or outlining the figure in colored tape.

Color can enhance the hues or contrast of photographs:

1. Use a light background with darker photos; a dark background with lighter photos.

2. Use a neutral background (gray) to emphasize color in photos; a white background to reduce the impact of colored photos.

3. Most poster sessions are held in halls lit with harsh fluorescent light. If exact colors are important to the data, balance those colors for use with fluorescent lighting. Also, all colors will be intensified; bright (saturated) colors may become unpleasent to view.

Miscellaneous comments

* Because a poster is a visual presentation, try to find ways to show what was done - use schematic diagrams, arrows, and other strategies to direct the visual attention of the viewer, rather than explaining it all using text alone (i.e., like the poster with way too much text below).

* Design the poster to address one central question. State the question clearly in the poster, then use your discussion time with individuals to expand or expound upon issues surrounding that central theme.
* Provide an explicit take-home message.
* Summarize implications and conclusions briefly, and in user-friendly language.
* Give credit where it is due. Have an acknowledgments section, in smaller font size (maybe 14 - 18 point), where you acknowledge contributors and funding organizations.
* Vary the size and spacing of the poster sections to add visual interest, but do so in moderation.
* Do not wander too far away from your poster during the session; be available for discussion!

Suffering From USB - VIRUS.....Follow simple steps.....

Suffering From USB - VIRUS.....Follow simple steps.....

There are some common virus that can spread and infect your computer through USB drives. These viruses include ‘Ravmon‘, ‘New Folder.exe‘, ‘Orkut is banned‘ and some other common viruses. Most antivirus either do not detect these viruses or do not remove them (just quarantine them).

Here are the things to do if you want to remove these virus from your USB and want to have a virus free flash disk.

- When you connect USB with your computer, you will get a window asking you what to do. Choose ‘Cancel‘ here.

- Open command prompt by typing ‘cmd‘ in Run box (from Start > Run OR press WIN+R). In the command prompt, write ‘drive letter:‘ and press Enter (let us say your USB is E so you will write E.

- Now type ‘dir /w/a‘ and press Enter.

- This will display a list of files in your flash drive, check if these files are there or not

Autorun.inf
Ravmon.exe
New Folder.exe
svchost.exe
Heap41a
or any other exe file which may be suspicious.

- If any of the above file is there, that means USB is infected by viruses.

- Type ‘attrib -r -a -s -h *.*‘ in command prompt and press Enter. This will remove the Read Only, Archive, System and hidden file attribute from all the files.

- Now just delete the files using the command ‘del filename‘ (forexample, to delete a file with name abc.exe I will use ‘del abc.exe‘).

- Your USB now does not have any suspicious file in it. To be on safe side you can now check it with any antivirus to see if it has any such file.

- Now remove the drive and plug it again. Most probably the real culprit turns out to be the “Autorun.inf” which mostly gets executed on pressing OK in the dialogue window (the one shown above). Thus the virus can spread.

Facebook's new messaging system: More than just email?

Facebook, with more than 500 million users communicating with each other daily, is looking to reinvent communications - and not just email.

The company today is introducing a three-pronged system that strives to not necessarily change the way we communicate but to make it more efficient, more personal and definitely simpler. And, of course, Facebook wants to make it seamless across the platforms and devices we’re already using.

At a press event in San Francisco this morning, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stressed that this is not “Facebook email,” which was the general belief in the guessing game that surrounded this event. Yes, everyone will soon have the option of securing an @facebook.com email address if they so choose - but it’s more than that. He said:

We’re using a mechansism that’s much simpler, like SMS or IM. We spent a lot of time building a handful of products that fit what we think of as a modern day messaging system.

At the heart of it all is the “social inbox,” a place where messages - again, not just email - are housed and filtered. Because Facebook already knows who your “friends” are, it can filter messages that it believes to be important to you. Everything else - not necessarily junk but maybe a newsletter or a bank statement or something from a family member who’s not on Facebook - goes into an “other” folder
And if one of those messages from a friend would be better for the “other” folder or a message from someone who landed in “other” should be in the social inbox, the user can move them back and forth, adjusting how those emails are handled in the future.

In terms of the seamless integration that Zuckerberg and team talked about, the idea is that users should be able to have an IM appear as an SMS or an SMS appear as an email, giving people a way to use the communication tool they prefer without worrying about how the recipient will see it or respond to it.

That can be pretty powerful.

The company said the rollout to users will be a slow one - over the next couple of months - and initially will be spread via invitations. The idea is to let people get used to it and offer some feedback to Facebook about it.

Overall, I like what Facebook is doing here. For some time now, I’ve been squawking about how cumbersome and inefficient email continues to be - despite some of the breakthroughs that companies like Yahoo and Google have been pitching lately, such as Gmail’s Priority Inbox.

The jury will be out for a bit on whether Facebook’s effort is a winning solution or whether people will actually start using it. Zuckerberg stressed that no one at Facebook is expecting users to dump their Gmail or Yahoo mail accounts any time soon.

But the idea that some users, including the younger users who already prefer SMS and Facebook over traditional email systems, will shift the winds for future generations is something that makes me hopeful - hopeful that the clunky e-mail systems of today will someday be history.

First computer on sale for 150,000 pounds

First computer on sale for 150,000 pounds

LONDON: One of the first computers assembled by Apple in 1976 which was sold by the company's founder has been put in an auction in Britain with an estimated price of 150,000 pounds.

Apple's founder Steve Jobs sold the first generation computer Apple-1 from his parents' garage. The Apple-I, the forerunners of the iPad, iPhone and other latest gadgets, first went on sale in July 1976 at a price of $666.66. The device will be sold at London-based auction house Christie's on November 23.

According to the Daily Mail, Apple-1s came with a tiny 8K memory - 524,000 times less than today's Apple computers' standard memory. It would not have the capacity to store one song.

The device comes with the original packaging, instruction manuals and a signed letter by Jobs, who is still head of the company.

Julian Wilson, of Christie's, was quoted as saying: "Before the Apple-1 you would have to put together your own motherboard and would need soldering skills.

"This is the forerunner of the iPod, iPad and iPhone. It worked straight out of the box, which was the original concept."

Beware of fake Facebook 'dislike' button

Lots of people think the Internet is a bit too chipper -- so much so that they've clamored for a "dislike" button on Facebook, which, to date, only officially allows people to "like" content on its site.

Now, some social-media spoilers are trying to turn the public's desire for that dislike button into a scam, according to a security researcher.

Graham Cluley, a senior technology consultant at the British security firm Sophos, wrote in a blog post on Monday that fake dislike buttons are going viral on Facebook.

Watch out for posts that look like this, he says: "I just got the Dislike button, so now I can dislike all of your dumb posts lol!!"

That statement on Facebook is typically followed with a link, Cluley writes, that takes people to a fake Facebook application.

Instead of installing a dislike button, Cluley says, the application uses a person's social network to continue spreading the fake program.

"If you do give the app permission to run, it silently updates your Facebook status to promote the link that tricked you in the first place, thus spreading the message virally to your Facebook friends and online contacts," he writes.

The tech blog Mashable writes that the fake dislike button app indirectly points Facebook users to a real add-on for the browser Firefox, which can be used to install a dislike button.

The blog offers general security advice for Facebook users:

"As usual, we advise you not to click on suspicious links on Facebook, especially if they promise something that sounds impossible or unlikely. Do not give away your personal information, unless you're absolutely sure why and who you're giving it to," says Mashable, which is a CNN content partner.

Cluley says the fake dislike button is part of a recent trend of Facebook scams whose titillating links play on tech memes and themes from pop culture.

"It's the latest survey scam spreading virally across Facebook, using the tried-and-tested formula used in the past by other viral scams including 'Justin Bieber trying to flirt,' 'Student attacked his teacher and nearly killed him,' 'the biggest and scariest snake' and the 'world's worst McDonald's customer,' " he says.

Typically, such schemes are designed to steal information from Internet users. That information then can be sold to other parties. The scams also can be used to co-opt an Internet user's social network contacts.

If you accidentally installed the fake application, click on the "account" button at the top right of the Facebook home screen. Navigate to the option that says "application settings," and disable the fake "dislike" application.

If the app has posted to your Facebook wall, go to your profile page and delete those posts to stop the scam from spreading further. Mashable also recommends checking your "interests" and "likes" settings from the "edit my profile" menu, to be sure that the app hasn't lodged itself there as well.

Or Facebook may do all of that for you.

The company says it is trying to block the "dislike" app.

"We're working hard to block and remove malicious applications that claim to provide dislike functionality and inadvertently update people's statuses," a Facebook spokesman said in an e-mail to CNN.

"It's important to keep in mind that there is no official dislike button. Also, don't click on strange links, even if they are from friends, and notify the person and report the link if you see something suspicious."

How to Set Up a Client Computer to Log Into a Domain Controller

The domain controller is the central Windows computer that controls user permissions and computer log-in resources. Before the Windows client computer logs in to the domain, the computer's system information needs configurations. The system is configured to connect to the domain each time it boots up. The domain works differently than the default workgroup. Domains are typically used for larger networks, while workgroups are for small home or office networks.

What is a computer virus?

A computer virus is a small software program that spreads from one computer to another computer and that interferes with computer operation. A computer virus may corrupt or delete data on a computer, use an e-mail program to spread the virus to other computers, or even delete everything on the hard disk.

Computer viruses are most easily spread by attachments in e-mail messages or by instant messaging messages. Therefore, you must never open an e-mail attachment unless you know who sent the message or unless you are expecting the e-mail attachment. Computer viruses can be disguised as attachments of funny images, greeting cards, or audio and video files. Computer viruses also spread by using downloads on the Internet. Computer viruses can be hidden in pirated software or in other files or programs that you may download.

Symptoms of a computer virus

If you suspect or confirm that your computer is infected with a computer virus, obtain the current antivirus software. The following are some primary indicators that a computer may be infected:

The computer runs slower than usual.
The computer stops responding, or it locks up frequently.
The computer crashes, and then it restarts every few minutes.
The computer restarts on its own. Additionally, the computer does not run as usual.
Applications on the computer do not work correctly.
Disks or disk drives are inaccessible.
 You cannot print items correctly.
 You see unusual error messages.
You see distorted menus and dialog boxes.
There is a double extension on an attachment that you recently opened, such as a .jpg, .vbs, .gif, or .exe. extension.
An antivirus program is disabled for no reason. Additionally, the antivirus program cannot be restarted.
An antivirus program cannot be installed on the computer, or the antivirus program will not run.
New icons appear on the desktop that you did not put there, or the icons are not associated with any recently installed programs.
Strange sounds or music plays from the speakers unexpectedly.
A program disappears from the computer even though you did not intentionally remove the program.

Note: These are common signs of infection. However, these signs may also be caused by hardware or software problems that have nothing to do with a computer virus. Unless you run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, and then you install industry-standard, up-to-date antivirus software on your computer, you cannot be certain whether a computer is infected with a computer virus or not.

Symptoms of worms and trojan horse viruses in e-mail messages

When a computer virus infects e-mail messages or infects other files on a computer, you may notice the following symptoms:

The infected file may make copies of itself. This behavior may use up all the free space on the hard disk.
A copy of the infected file may be sent to all the addresses in an e-mail address list.
The computer virus may reformat the hard disk. This behavior will delete files and programs.
The computer virus may install hidden programs, such as pirated software. This pirated software may then be distributed and sold from the computer.
The computer virus may reduce security. This could enable intruders to remotely access the computer or the network.
You receive an e-mail message that has a strange attachment. When you open the attachment, dialog boxes appear, or a sudden degradation in system performance occurs.
Someone tells you that they have recently received e-mail messages from you that contained attached files that you did not send. The files that are attached to the e-mail messages have extensions such as .exe, .bat, .scr, and .vbs extensions.

Symptoms that may be the result of ordinary Windows functions

A computer virus infection may cause the following problems:

Windows does not start even though you have not made any system changes or even though you have not installed or removed any programs.
There is frequent modem activity. If you have an external modem, you may notice the lights blinking frequently when the modem is not being used. You may be unknowingly supplying pirated software.
Windows does not start because certain important system files are missing. Additionally, you receive an error message that lists the missing files.
The computer sometimes starts as expected. However, at other times, the computer stops responding before the desktop icons and the taskbar appear.
The computer runs very slowly. Additionally, the computer takes longer than expected to start.
You receive out-of-memory error messages even though the computer has sufficient RAM.
 New programs are installed incorrectly.
 Windows spontaneously restarts unexpectedly.
Programs that used to run stop responding frequently. Even if you remove and reinstall the programs, the issue continues to occur.
A disk utility such as Scandisk reports multiple serious disk errors.
 A partition disappears.
The computer always stops responding when you try to use Microsoft Office products.
You cannot start Windows Task Manager.
Antivirus software indicates that a computer virus is present.

How to remove a computer virus
